Many brands face this trouble: boxes pass quality check at factory, yet turn dented, creased or collapsed after long‑term storage in overseas warehouses. Apart from transit impact, most damage comes from continuous stacking pressure inside storage facilities.


Warehouses stack cartons high to save space. Heavy weight from upper‑layer goods keeps pressing down. If custom boxes lack enough compression resistance, permanent deformation will occur and ruin your inventory appearance.


Here are key factors affecting box stacking performance and practical purchasing tips.


1. Paper GSM & Board Stiffness

Paper material forms the foundation of compression resistance. For identical box style, lower‑gram‑weight board deforms much easier under pressure. 

‑ Common gift boxes use 250‑300g grey board. For heavy‑stack storage, choose 350‑400g grey board. 

‑ For corrugated boxes: B‑flute offers strong compression; E‑flute delivers fine print effect yet poor stacking performance.


Note: Nice‑looking sample does not guarantee good stacking performance. Small‑size samples cannot simulate long‑time heavy‑load warehouse conditions.


2. Box Structure Makes Big Difference 

Even with same material, box structure changes load‑bearing capacity greatly. 

‑ Lid‑base boxes: The outer cover fits loosely, easy to dent under heavy stacked weight. ‑ Magnetic closure boxes: Hollow inner space makes cover prone to caving in, heavy goods should not be placed on top. 

‑ Mailer boxes: Integrated folding structure distributes pressure evenly, performs better in stacking scenarios.


3. Inner Insert Provides Physical Support 

EVA, paper inserts are not only for product protection. They work as internal support framework for gift boxes. 

Without firm inner inserts, hollow gift‑box cavities will collapse easily under stacking pressure. Cutting insert thickness to save cost greatly increases deformation risk.


4. Master Carton Packing Method (Easily Overlooked) 

Even well‑made boxes can deform if packed loosely inside export cartons. Large gaps allow boxes to shift and squeeze each other under pressure.

Boxes should be tightly arranged. Fill empty gaps with padding material to fix positions inside master cartons.


5. Buying Tips For Overseas Brands

① Inform your supplier about real‑warehouse conditions: how many layers will be stacked and expected storage duration. Factories can select proper board thickness accordingly. 

② For lid‑base and magnetic boxes with weak compression performance, print stacking‑limit marks on outer cartons to prevent over‑stacking in warehouses. 

③ Avoid reducing board GSM just to cut cost. Damaged inventory losses are far higher than material savings. 

④ Run simple stacking pressure test on samples to simulate real‑world storage risks before mass order.
